Day has been described as the quintessential All-American girl with the Hollywood-style “girl next door” image. The top female money-making star of the last 79 years, Doris Day appeared in 39 films, recorded more than 650 songs, was nominated for an Academy Award, and won a Golden Globe and a Grammy Award. Since the song “Que Sera Sera” is so strongly associated with Doris Day, it is worth a brief detour to look at her career and legacy. Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday, so I wanted to share with you one of my favorite songs for encouraging discussion about mothers and motherly advice: “Que Sera, Sera.” Made famous by the inimitable Doris Day (see her version on YouTube here ), this song debuted in the 1956 Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Man Who Knew Too Much” and later became the theme song to The Doris Day Show, which aired from 1968 to 1973. Themes: Parenting, Advice, Anticipating the Future.
